WIND RIVER: A WESTERN DUO by Les Savage, Jr.   (WESTERN SAV)

The first book in this new Western duo, “the No-Gun Marshall,” is the story of City Marshal Lee Britt.  Back on the job after having been wounded in the right hand by Ron Dary, a gunman too cowardly to go up against Britt except from Ambush, Britt finds he is going to have to face Dary again.  Everyone knows that Britt has not been target practicing and they are not sure how he will handle himself.  Can he still hold his own in a gunfight?  The second book, “Wind River,” finds Frank Ives arriving in Medicine Lodge, Wyoming with Jack Border in pursuit of him.  Jack believes his brother was lynched because of an editorial Ives wrote.  Ives goes to the Anchor Brand Ranch with hopes of getting hired as a cowboy.  This is a big problem, because it puts him in the middle of a feud between Anchor and the Thaynes.  The Thaynes do not want the railroad to come to Medicine Lodge.  The Anchor people need the railroad to stay in business.  Ives does not want to have a confrontation with Borders, but may have to change his mind.

TWISTED by Sara Shepard   (YA SHE)

Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily are now seniors and it has been a year since the torturous notes from A stopped and the mystery of Alison DiLaurentis’s disappearance was finally put to rest.  They are all older, but not any wiser.  They have more secrets than ever, they are very twisted, and could destroy the perfect lives they’ve worked so hard to rebuild.  The girls are desperate to forget a fateful night that happened last spring in Jamaica, but they know better than anyone else that all secrets wash ashore—eventually!

THE UNION QUILTERS by Jennifer Chiaverini   (MYS CHI)

This is a powerful tale of love and sacrifice during the Civil War.  It is the year 1862, and the men of Water’s Ford, Pennsylvania, rally to answer Mr. Lincoln’s call to arms.  The women of the Elm Creek Valley are then spurred into their own battle to preserve the nation.  Dorothea Granger is dismayed by her husband’s bleak description of food shortages and illness in the soldiers’ camps, so she gets her friends together to “wield their needles for the Union” and provide for the men’s needs.  At home the women work, hope, and pray and the men they love confront loneliness, boredom and harrowing danger on the bloody battlefields of Virginia and Pennsylvania.
